Grand Cenote – Tulum, Mexico

“Grand Cenote”

Here, in the Riviera Maya, the waters are so crystal clear, you can see the bottom.  This sinkhole is just the beginning of the adventure that awaits beneath the earth.  The water flows for miles and only the truly adventurous will explore the never ending channels.

“Bridge over Multnomah Falls”

On This Day – A year ago, I posted this image of Multnomah Falls. It wasn’t long after that when the Eagle Creek fire occurred, forever changing the landscape of the mountains beyond. The fire, itself, came perilously close to the falls and the adjoining lodge. This year I will be returning for the first time. But the images will never be the same.

“Bridge over Multnomah Falls”

At the beginning of winter thaw, the water rushes to the edge, the end.  It’s power evident in the roar of the falls cascading over and pooling on the shelf before it cascades again to the bottom.  The smell in the air is so crisp, you know spring is coming.  Blossoming in the sun.

“On the Edge”

“On the Edge”

It’s cold, calm.  The lights across the river shout back at me as I stand here.  I’m on the edge, not knowing which way to turn as they flicker about.  The hustle and bustle of the city can get to anyone but tonight the city speaks.  Mesmerizing me and drawing me back in.  Hopelessly lost within.

“Lost Lake”

“Lost Lake”

As the sun slowly rises, the mist on the lake begins to disappear.  The water is absolutely still as Mt. Hood stands tall, even in its own reflection.  It is perfectly quiet this morning.  I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

“Flamingo Pool”

Oblivious to their surroundings, they live in peace, in paradise.  No desire to leave, flamingos wander about, drinking the water, sleeping upright.  Only occasionally opting to actually look up to be captured in time.  But this was not this time.

“Enjoying the Ruins”

We walked to the top of the wall of this ancient civilization to succumb to the beauty of the seas beyond.  People frolic in the water below, escaping the scorching heat of the day.  The view alone is enough to explain the Mayans reasons for settling here.  Breathtaking.

“Triple Balcony”

The balconies remain empty as the water gently flows beneath.  Soft whispers of the leaves the only sound outside the windows.  Citizens patiently await the appearance of the lords for their annual kickoff of seasonal festivities. Excitement grows. Unleash them.

Gently swaying along the dock, the boats are lined up.  Waiting for the next class; the enthusiasm of its students.  They want to see the sail fill with air as they pull away.  Ever guiding them with the wind.  Peacefully.
