One thing that can confuse a new photographer is what resolution you should make your image for the web vs. print. For one thing, the larger the image, the more mbs it will be taking up. For the web, you generally would not want to take up much disc space so when choosing a resolution for your image in Photoshop or Lightroom, you can keep your image at 72 dpi.
For images that will be printed, such as in a magazine or photo, you would want to use 300 dpi or more. This way the image is printed in rich deep color with minimal defects.
